Westbury Christian School Boys’ Basketball Team Wins and Collects 17th State Title

Photo courtesy of Westbury Christian School
What an exciting weekend for the Westbury Christian Boys’ Basketball Team! After beating Second Baptist at the State Semi-Finals with a score of 70-54, the Wildcats then traveled to Mansfield on Saturday to compete against Dallas Christian School for the TAPPS 4A state title.  This was the Boys’ Basketball Team’s 17th State Championship.  The boys went on to win the trophy with a score of 58-48! The team is headed up by Coach Russell Carr.  “We were the only private school team to win a basketball state championship this year,” said Carr. “There were 7 Houston teams represented in the state tournament across 5 different classifications.”

It was a good ending to a long season.  “We had a team of 3 seniors and the rest all underclassmen,” said Carr.  “They played well together and were committed to getting better all season.  They did not focus on what they were not, rather what they were.  They were the epitome of Championship Effort, Team Attitude and Servant Leadership.  I am a very proud coach!”

Westbury Christian returned to the top of TAPPS 4A

WESTBURY CHRISTIAN WILDCATS
2012-2013 TAPPS 4A STATE CHAMPIONS
Westbury Christian wins TAPPS title by beating Dallas Christian 58-48 at Mansfield Legacy to claim the boys state championship - the program's 17th state championship Saturday March 2nd. When the boys program lost the last two seasons TAPPS Title opportunities, the girls program went on its four straight  TAPPS State Titles. While the lady wildcats came up a game away short to the FINAL FOUR this year, the boys found a way to take the state title back this year to keep the winning tradition. The young wildcats will only graduate one starter of the three seniors this year which will give coach Carr a great opportunity to come back stronger next year.
WESTBURY CHRISTIAN LADY WILDCATS
2012-2013 TAPPS 4A DISTRICT 4 CHAMPIONS
On the girls side, the lady wildcats will again graduate a majority and almost half of the varsity team with six seniors same as the last two season, leaving only two starters from this year. It will be a rebuilding process of a young team for coach Bailey next year.
