Britney Grinner is making HOUSTON PROUD! 2008-2009 was the year of the BIG’s in Houston when Grinner and Bone met at the Texas 5A State Regional’s and ending the Dulles Vikings and Kelsey Bone’s last chance to go to Austin for the BIG DANCE. Grinner took Nimitz to the Texas 5A State Finals but failed and lost to Summit. Now she returns back to the stage trying to reach a national recognition… the NCAA Women’s Basketball National Division I Title. Will she reach for it? The Houstonians says she will after showing up big and ending Tennessee’s road to the FINAL FOUR. The Baylor Lady Bears will face Duke and hoping to rescind the outcome of what happened on their men’s program losing to Duke recently. Duke have forward/guard junior Karima Christmas also a Houstonian from Dobie HS class of 2006. Whatever happens, Houston will always be proud of all the Houstonians. May the best team wins.

It can be done and they did it! "The Broncos Did". They conquered the State 5A Title after long years of drought Fort Bend Bush got it made this year. Its Houston's time to shine with Yates conquering the Boys 4A championships and CyFair claiming the 5A state title in girls basketball. We can now look forward for what Houston will become next season moving forward with all the talents they currently have and the ones that are just coming in as freshmen. The future is bright! Soon the 2010-2011 basketball season will be here. Congratulations to all the seniors that are continuing to follow their dreams and will play at the next level. Village Up For BIG AND BROADER Challenges
After beating Kinkaid School in the HJPC Conference Tournament and having a successful junior high season, Hannah Cambel and Alexis Onigbanjo of the Lady Vikings will now move to a higher level of competition next year. Though it will not be the first time for both Cambel and Onigbanjo playing up with the Village high school team, it will be a big change. Both played a few games with the JV team the past season. The new team will be very young that will have mostly freshmen and sophomores. Coach Margo Graham took the junior high Lady Vikings to a 2009-2010 undefeated season with a 22-0 record winning the HJPC Conference Championship and ending the season with the HJPC Tournament Title. Alexis Onigbanjo the recipient of the 2009-2010 MVP award from the Village School and the Houston Christian Middle School Shootout and Hannah Cambel received the TEAM Player Award from the Village School and the All-Tournament Player Award from the Houston Christian Middle School Shootout. They will both have a lot to work on this summer to prepare for a more challenging season that will be the first in their young careers. Coach Margo Graham will also move up to coach the Village high school team and looking forward to building a great basketball program parallel to the existing boys program.
Ft. Bend Bush To 5A State Final Four
After an emotional win over a nationally rank Bellaire Cardinals, the Broncos are now ready to face the toughest mission by far. They are two games away from Class 5A State Title. They will take it one game at a time under the leadership of head coach Ronnie Courtney. He knows the way, he’s been there twice and winning it in 2000 and 2001 with two McDonald All-Americans TJ Ford and Daniel Ewing. This time it will be his third and he’s confident enough that he has all the talents he needed to win it again. The Broncos are hungry and will sure put up a good fight like there is no tomorrow. They will face Flower Mound on Friday at Frank Erwin Center in Austin. ‘LET’S GO BOYS AND MAKE HOUSTON PROUD ONCE MORE!” Photo Courtesy of Houston Chronicle

State 5A Girls Finals-All Houston
It is rare for two same city teams to face off in the Class 5A state championship and for only the second time in the history of the UIL girls’ basketball state tournament, The Cy Fair bobcats and Fort Bend Hightower hurricanes meet for the Class 5A state Finals. Cy Fair with the top player of the nation Chiney Ogwumike showed why she is the number one player, supported by a great point guard in Cassie Peoples makes it more difficult for Hightower to compete, Hightower’s inexperience makes a big difference compared to Cy Fair’s fourth straight time appearance in Austin. I know this is just the beginning for the Houston area teams. Houston has a lot to offer and plenty of young talents both boys and girls that are about to change the state and the nations view of the city’s basketball talents.
