What an exciting weekend for the Westbury Christian Boys’ Basketball Team! After beating Second Baptist at the State Semi-Finals with a score of 70-54, the Wildcats then traveled to Mansfield on Saturday to compete against Dallas Christian School for the TAPPS 4A state title. This was the Boys’ Basketball Team’s 17th State Championship. The boys went on to win the trophy with a score of 58-48! The team is headed up by Coach Russell Carr. “We were the only private school team to win a basketball state championship this year,” said Carr. “There were 7 Houston teams represented in the state tournament across 5 different classifications.”
It was a good ending to a long season. “We had a team of 3 seniors and the rest all underclassmen,” said Carr. “They played well together and were committed to getting better all season. They did not focus on what they were not, rather what they were. They were the epitome of Championship Effort, Team Attitude and Servant Leadership. I am a very proud coach!”
