After a great summer AAU basketball season with the Houston Defenders Select, head coach Don Harvey is happy to have Shaq Cleare back home at The Village High School to man the middle and defend his home court. The Village Vikings will open their season November 2nd at home facing HCYA. Game starts at 7:00 p.m.
Two years has gone by fast for The Village High School basketball program. The former all freshmen Viking team is now on their third year of existence with seasoned players. Junior point guard Gary Smith and shooting guard Trevion Williams will lead the backcourt while junior Chris Matthews will start as a small forward. Matthews is another great player that will bring excitement for the Viking fans this year. He is the "Silent Assassin". Let's not forget about junior Devion Whetstone and sophomore Josh Butler 'The Workcoholics" who in the absence of Shaquille will step in and take responsibility of protecting the middle. Both Whetstone and Butler are versatile players that can play 4 and 5. The two other great hard working role players are sophomore guards Kevin Zea and Thierry Thcenko. Don't miss out this year! Come and see the Village High School Vikings and be a WITNESS.
Village will do well this season.

Gary Smith is one of the best point guards not being talked about. He was an ESPN top 100 as a freshman. He plays on both ends of the court, often defending opposing teams top scorer. Sophomore year he broke his wrist and was sidelined for much of the season. He's been playing on the AAU circuit since his freshman year. I'd like to see if he's elevated his game since sitting out last season. He and Shaq should be a good 1 - 2 punch.

ReplyDeleteJosh Butler has really stepped up his game now playing the 2, 3, and 4 positions. Now standing at 6' 6", he is powerful force to be reckoned with as he is receiving national recognition.
